Since its opening in 1981, the National Aquarium has been the jewel of Baltimore’s inner harbor redevelopment. It’s Maryland’s largest tourist attraction, hosting more than 51 million visitors since its opening. With more than 20,000 fish, amphibians, reptiles, marine mammals, and birds, the aquarium is consistently ranked as one of the country’s top three aquariums.

Living Showcases, Interactive Conservation

kubik maltbie’s scope of work included engineering and fabrication services, along with the installation of casework, graphics, and scenic environments. In addition, kubik maltbie was responsible for fabrication and installation of the aquarium tanks for the exhibit.

In addition to traditional exhibits and aquarium tanks, kubik maltbie also produced a series of interactive exhibits. A complex interactive digital touch-table game allows visitors to reveal objects washed ashore at high tide. Other interactives include a tactile discovery wall, an informational computer touch screen, digital binoculars featuring animals along the beach, and an interactive conservation station to engage visitors with protection of coastal habitats and animals.
