Fostering Innovation with Hands-On Experimentation

Science North is a leader among science centres providing inspirational, educational and entertaining science experiences. THINK (which stands for Tinker, Hack, Innovate, Network and Know) combines science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) to encourage hands-on experimentation with real tools, materials and processes. Visitors are inspired to innovate, build skills, and complete meaningful activities, projects and challenges, allowing them to experiment and discover physics concepts, engineering processes, and new technologies. The Prototype lab offers specialized equipment to create innovative projects and designs.

The centre’s first major overhaul since it opened in 1984, the two-year project was the result of federal and provincial funding and unveiled a significant renewal project, re-opening its renovated and re-imagined fourth floor.

Major Renewal and Expanding Audience Reach

The THINK project represents a major renewal of 50% of Science North’s 4th floor; expanding Science North’s reach and depth of engagement with audiences of all ages and backgrounds, driving repeat visitation and increase memberships.

Chosen due to expertise in development of interactive electro-mechanical exhibits, reconfigurable/flexible exhibit design and fabrication, and a trusted relationship and longevity of experience in the field — for the third time in 5 years, Science North turned to kubik maltbie to contribute to the final design development, prototyping, shop drawing for select exhibits, fabrication, project management, delivery, and installation of the exhibit components.
