Job Summary:

Kubik Maltbie is a museum exhibit fabrication and fit-out contractor working on major museum exhibit installations domestically and internationally. The company specializes in highly customized cabinetry, millwork, showcases, interactive exhibits, graphics, metal and acrylic production. The company operates a full-service production facility employing multiple trades and professions as well as a team of project managers.

The Finisher/Painter works with our Lead Finisher to prep, sand, prime and finish coat a variety of cabinetry, displays and panels our custom made museum displays and exhibits. This is a unique opportunity to join a team of skilled fabricators in creating large scale custom projects for high quality museum environments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute work orders , while identifying potential finish issues with project managers to correct beforehand.
  • Application of various types of finish by H.V.L.P. spray, brush or roller for surfaces including MDF, veneer, solid wood, various metals, glass and acrylics, amongst others.
  • Prep work to include staging, detailing and quality control before finishing process. Duties include minor repair or touch-ups with bondo, wood fillers, caulk etc.  Final detail sanding with orbital sander or hand work
  • Blueprint review to identify all parts needed for phases of project and variety of finishes to be applied.
  • Preparation of paint samples and step boards for client/designer reviews and approvals
  • Color matching and repair work to minor damages on finished products
  • Inventory control and ordering of finishes and production materials related to our department, contacting paint suppliers for guidance as required.
  • Maintenance of finishing rack, paint booth and filtration systems.

 

Job Specifications & Requirements:

Relevant Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in finishing or prep work in a construction/exhibit fabrication environment or an equivalent field.
  • Attention to detail, providing  high quality work is a must.
  • Ability to work well under pressure independently and in groups in a fast paced environment where quality and efficiency are key
  • Maintain calm and adapt to last minute changes, deadlines and repairs
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Maintain safety standards. This is a shop environment where. PPE for eye, ear and respiratory is provided
  • Proficient knowledge of inventory and inventory controls
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to lead others as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend and maneuver around large scale pieces
  • High physical activity: lifting, bending, stretching & must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Available to work extended hours, OT periodically
